If you have a larger family or like to buy a lot of fresh food, a small regular fridge may not be a suitable option and you may require a tall American style fridge which is more expensive. Another advantage of buying a used fridge is that if you have your eye on an expensive fridge and you cannot afford it, there may be someone selling the same fridge second hand and therefore you can get the fridge you want without spending a fortune on it.
